Before I even proceed with this topic, those of you who are planning to come to Japan, you need to be aware that most washing machines use room temperature water.
Therefore, for those of you who have been used to using warm water in your washing machines, this difference will probably be a culture shock for you.
The other thing you need to take in consideration is that the dryers use electricity to heat up and dry up your laundry. On the other hand, public laundry centers use gas to heat up and dry up your laundry.
The kind of washing machines and dryers that you will find at the DK house Share House are coin operated. The item placed above is the drier and the item below is the washing machine ( shown in the picture below ). Each floor has it's own space allocated to doing your laundry.
1. A wash cycle will cost you 200 yen. All you have to do is to place your clothes in the washing machine, close the lid, add the coins and the rest is automatic. It's that simple !
2. Washing powder is free so there is no need for you to purchase. Unless you want to add some fabricants. In this case you would have to purchase that on your own.
1. As I mentioned earlier in the blog, the dryers use electricity to heat up and dry your clothes. It costs 100 yen for a 30 minute cycle. 30 minutes is enough if you just have a little or light wear, however, if you have quite a number of items that you need to dry up, personally, I would recommend 1 to 2 hours. In the case you want to save money, the accommodation has a rooftop where you can hand your washed items ( as shown below )
Some of you may be wondering, where can I wash my blankets or items that can't really fit in the accommodation washing machine. Well in that case, I would recommend that you use the local area laundry center. If you are not sure about the location, the building manager who is at the accommodation can show you how to get there.
