The one misconception that people have before moving into a Share House is that the only common area space is the kitchen. However, at the DK House Share House, you have different common area spaces used for different purposes ! Here are my favorite common area spaces that I feel you will find very useful.
This co-work space is like a miniature library and this room can be closed off using partitions. Some residents use this space to study in a group or conduct their online teaching lessons by connecting their computer to the monitor ( shown abaove )
This music instrument is located away from the rooms.
There is a similar multiple purpose room located at the Shin-Koiwa Share House that also has musical instruments. It also has a gym ! Isn't that cool ?! There is no need to register for a gym. According to the manager of the accommodation, the ladies use this space often for yoga practice early in the morning or in the evenings.
To be honest with you, registering at a gym in Japan can get pricey so having gym equipment right at the accommodation helps you maintain a low cost and healthy lifestyle.
Both the Shin-Koiwa and Nerima Share Houses have showers rooms that are separated according to genders. But besides that, you have an area where you can experience the Japanese style separated baths.
I already know what you are thinking ! There is no way I am going to get into a bath with someone I don't know. But think of it this way. You came to Japan to experience some part of the culture, right ? My rule of thumb is to try something out first and then decide if you want to do it again. Trust me, filling up a huge tub with hot water and being able to dip your whole body inside is actually a luxury in Japan. Most apartments usually have a tiny bath so having this kind of facility gives you a feeling like you are at the onsen ( public bath ). Not trying this out is going to make you miss out on such a huge part of the Japanese culture. Plus if you have a tattoo, it is perfectly okay to go in.
At the Nerima Share House accommodation, each floor is separated into three categories. Males, females and mixed gender floor. This floor shown above is the female's only floor. According to the manager, the ladies like to gather together in the morning or evenings to work out.
Each floor has a similar open space, for example a study-work area. I find this really useful because, if you want to be in an open area and still want to preserve some form of privacy, this kind of space provides that.
